Velavaru, opened in December 1998, is an averaged sized island by Maldivian standards and is approximately 500m in length by 200 m wide, is the second resort in  the Dhaalu Atoll.

The buildings on Velavaru blend in with the thick local vegetation and coconut palms creating the relaxed environment of the Maldives. Tourism is very new to the atoll providing you with an excellent opportunity to dive at breathtaking sites where the human disturbance is almost negligible. The diving at Velavaru is an exciting experience.

Velavaru, Turtle Island, with its wide sandy beach bordered by the shimmering turquoise lagoon is the tropical island situated in the northeastern corner of South Nilandhe Atoll. Velavaru is about 150 km from Male International Airport and can be reached in 45 minutes. The seaplane trip to Velavaru, flying Trans Maldivian Airways will provide you with a bird's eye view of the magnificent reefs of South Male Atoll.

The Restaurant and Bar in Velavaru is designed in the outstanding Maldivian style to create a relaxed and comforting atmosphere. Restaurant and Bar ideally located close to each other, a few meters from the beach and the turquoise lagoon complements the local charm and the warmth of the people.

Restaurant: A Large round hut with thatched roofing houses the main restaurant at Velavaru. While you sit in the restaurant with your toes digging into the soft sand, the view is of the green vegetation and the turquoise lagoon beyond.

Bar: The Bar is designed in the same simple and elegant style where you could spend your evenings completely relaxed. The open-air deck surrounding the bar provides you with a more casual atmosphere.

Whether sitting inside or outside on the timber wooden deck you are waited upon by the friendly bar waiters. The professional barmen inside the oval wooden counter can prepare any concoction that you may desire. In addition to all the usual bar drinks, the Bar is well stocked with the finest wines and champagnes. Discounted drinks are offered every evening from 1830-1930 during the Happy Hour and on selected nights offers local entertainment.
